Meet Yvonne

Yvonne, a dynamic force in house music, grew up in Brooklyn surrounded by jazz, inspired early by her father, a world renowned musician. Music became part of her identity, and in the 1980s she found her true artistic home at New York’s legendary Paradise Garage. Nights at Danceteria, Sound Factory Bar, and The Shelter deepened her love for house music and shaped her understanding of its culture of unity, freedom, and emotional release. Influenced by iconic DJs like Timmy Regisford and Joe Claussell, Yvonne developed a powerful, melodic style of her own. When she began spinning, her mixes quickly gained attention across Brooklyn for their energy, soulful flow, and ability to take dancers on a journey. Her commitment to authenticity and community eventually evolved into ASHA Music her personal brand whose name means “life” in Swahili. ASHA Music reflects her belief that music is a living, breathing force that connects people and uplifts the spirit.

Throughout her career, Yvonne has performed across a wide range of influential venues, demonstrating her versatility and impact on the local scene. Her very first live gig was at the legendary Frank’s Lounge in Fort Greene BK. She played at Cameo Lounge, Bar 13, Wulou Lounge, Social Butterfly, Commodore Barry Park, Von King Park, the Nuyorican Poetry Café, Funkbox, The Greene Garden, BK Lounge, and numerous Brooklyn block parties. She has also been featured at Seagate Park, Femme Fontaine Lounge, Williamsburg Music Center, Mo’s, and more.

ABOUT

Yvonne held a two-year residency at 33 Lafayette, a bar lounge in downtown Brooklyn, directly across from the iconic Brooklyn Academy of Music. As host DJ, she curated the sound, booked guest DJs, and handled her own promotion building a loyal crowd and a signature vibe night after night. The residency sharpened her identity as a DJ, turning the venue into a soulful community-driven by house music.

ASHA Music embodies the spirit of house music: life, love, rhythm, and community. Her story is one of passion and connection, a celebration of the music that continues to inspire her and everyone who hears her play.
